The Problem:

The homeowners in this historical 1925 two-story home in Ossining were faced with a common issue – there was no central cooling system in place. To combat the summer heat, they resorted to using multiple window AC units for comfort.

The Solution:

For this particular project in Ossining, Thermodynamix expertly installed a comprehensive system of Mitsubishi Electric ductless mini-split wall-mounted and floor-mounted AC units throughout the entire two-story home. These units were connected to Mitsubishi Electric’s cutting-edge Hyper Heating heat pumps, ensuring efficient and effective cooling and heating capabilities. By utilizing this advanced technology, the homeowners were able to achieve optimal comfort and climate control in every room of their historical 1925 house.

The Design

We started by assessing the home, taking measurements, and calculating the total heat load for the entire house. Making a Manual J load calculation is essential in determining the BTU load required for optimal heating and cooling. Our team proposed an all-ductless heat pump design tailored to meet the customer’s specific needs. The final design includes six FS series Mitsubishi Electric wall-mounted mini-split heads, along with two floor-mounted units and two M-series outdoor condensers. This innovative system offers individualized comfort control from room to room, providing efficient heating and cooling throughout the home.

The Installation

<p “”=””>To begin, our skilled installation team professionally removed the customer’s 80% efficiency boiler and carefully took out the radiators and baseboards. Next, we placed Mitsubishi Electric FS-series wall mounts in every room of the house to ensure that the customer can enjoy both AC and heat throughout the entire area. In addition, we installed two-floor mounts in the bedrooms on the second floor where wall space was limited for the wall-mounted unit.

Rebates & Incentives

The customer qualified for ConEd’s $10,000 instant rebate for decommissioning their gas boiler and installing a new air source heat pump system as well as the $2,000 Federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit.

Following this, we meticulously installed all the necessary wiring and piping for each unit, connecting them to two multi-zone Hyper Heating heat pump condensers outside. Finally, we integrated Kumo Cloud for convenient remote control through their mobile device, allowing them to adjust temperatures and maintain consistent comfort levels while on the move.

The Benefit

By installing a heat pump and decommissioning the gas boiler, the customer was eligible for the ConEd $10,000 rebate. Previously relying on window AC units and an 80% efficiency gas boiler, the switch to mini splits provided a more efficient cooling and heating solution without the hassle of installing window units each summer.A significant advantage of this project was the integration with the customer’s existing solar panels. By transitioning to electric heat pumps, the customer is embracing a greener, more environmentally friendly future. This not only promotes self-sufficiency but also contributes to energy bill savings.
