Katonah is bordered by the Muscoot Reservoir, which supplies the drinking water for Manhattan and the Bronx. Founded in 1680, the hamlet moved east due to the Croton Dam construction in 1897. The hamlet of 1,600 residents is 45 miles northeast of Manhattan and 12 miles east of Ridgefield, CT. Major roads such as Route 100, Route 35, I-684 and the Saw Mill River Parkway crisscross its perimeters.

90-degree summer days or 10-degree winter nights compel homeowners to invest in both heating and cooling solutions. Recently we worked with a 19-year Katonah resident who had a heat pump that provided both heating and cooling.

However, the homeowner thought their system was limited to air conditioning. We were called when one of their wall mounted A/C units failed.

Isolating HVAC Repair to Failed Component

The wall unit was connected to one of their two outdoor heat pumps, a Mitsubishi MXZ-2B20NA via a small air handler, SEZ-KD09NA. The old outdoor unit was sitting directly on the ground, which contributed to its failure. We suggested first removing and replacing one of the two outdoor heat pumps. We identified a next-generation heat pump model, MXZ-2C20NA4, that was still compatible with the existent 2 indoor wall units.

In case the old indoor equipment did not function with the new outdoor swap, we had other options. We would proceed with additional system replacements – if needed.

Our goal was to restore functionality with the least cost to the customer first while keeping in accordance with the saltbox style architecture, with its slanted, higher ceilings in various parts of the home.

While installing the new unit, we built a new standing base.

The old unit was sinking into the soil. We lifted and leveled the heat pump to benefit operability and maintenance. The new unit was integrated with the old units, restoring, and even improving performance once installed.

We connected the new unit to the existing indoor unit and thermostat as well.

The new equipment came with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. We provide a 1-year workmanship guaranty on all installations. Thermodynamix is proud to be a diamond contractor for Mitsubishi. Not only are Mitsubishi’s products world class, but also, they are backward compatible with a few generations of previously issued equipment.

In this case, the homeowner limited their reinvestment only to the failed portion of the system. Additionally, we educated the client on the full functionality of their system. We also provided maintenance tips that the previous provider either did not or failed to emphasize their importance.

Proactively performing maintenance will:

  • identify minor issues before they expand,
  • ensure efficient operations
  • decrease the likelihood of your system failing at the worst time

However, in case of a critical situation, Thermodynamix does offer 24/7 emergency services.
